Commission FAQ
Prices
The first thing I look for when I visit an artist's page, before I even think of any questions, is the price.
My current prices depend a bit on the scope of your project and the details. A half-body character is different from a full scene with three people and a background. If it's for a game, it can also be affected by modifications to the pose or additional outfits, ect. The best way to get a price is to ask for a quote. But a rough estimate for cel-shading: - A simple, colored bust is about 30$. - A half-body character is about 60$. - A full-body character is about 90$. These can come with up to five expressions if it's a visual novel sprite, and 3$ for each additional expression. Pose modifications for sprites are between 20$-30$, additional outfits are 10$-40$, additional hairstyles are 20$. For CGs or normal scene commissions, it starts at the base prices above per character (for example: a kiss scene with two characters from the waist up and no background would be 120$). This will go up if there's a background or a lot of effects/complexity. 'Complexity' is usually things like the amount of detail on their outfits or some sort of magical/mechanical effect, not the angle or pose. This can also be affected by preferred coloring style. Still interested? Below is a FAQ of questions I've been asked; if there's something more, please feel free to contact me.

The Before
do you only do art for games and visual novels?
No!
A lot of my commissions are for character sprites and CGs in games but I absolutely can do a traditional commission.

Will you do NSFW?
I reserve the right to refuse any commission that makes me uncomfortable, but I am willing to do NSFW - within reason.
I prefer softer NSFW, but NSFW itself is not an automatic 'no'. There are certain things I won't do, including but not limited to anthropomorphic, underage appearances (even if it's a 9000-year old dragon in human form), rape/molestation/non-consensual, very large visual age differences, and certain kinks.
If you've read this and are still uncertain, feel free to ask me.

i want art that will match this other art! Can you do it?
I can only promise an attempt can be made but not that you'll like it.
I can understand trying to replace an artist on a project that already has a lot of materials created. Things happen! But I'm not a chameleon artist and while I can certainly take inspiration, I don't claim to be able to match any specific style. If you're willing to accept whatever closest approximation I can make, then I'll give it a go. If you need seamless replication, I would suggest looking for an artist that has already shown familiarity with it.

will you draw fanart or fandom OCs?
In general, yes!
There are exceptions and, since I don't promise style replication, this means the fanart or OCs may not match the original material. But I have nothing against fanart or OCs in general. If you are concerned about fandom pairings, I'm pretty open-minded and I try my best not to 'bash' any of them.

Are you comfortable doing anything lgbtq+?
Absolutely!
The Middle
I need this quickly! How long will it take you?
I hate to say it, but 'it depends'.
I'm usually quick. Simple sprites or CGs are often done in a within a week even when I have multiple projects so long as you're available when I send updates. But life happens - sometimes I have a lot of errands, or an emergency vet visit, or I get sick. When something comes up that causes delays, I keep you informed.
If you know ahead of time that there's a deadline, please make sure to inform me and I can let you know if it's doable. I don't mind reasonable deadlines as long as you communicate them to me.

what is your timezone so I know when to expect a reply?
I live in GMT-5
Do not rely on this.
I am a gremlin who is as likely to be active in the wee morning hours as the really late hours, and what my schedule seems to be one week will not be the same a week later.
If you live in a different time zone and you're a well-organized team who would really like regular live check-ins, let me know. It's doable. If you're just curious.... well, so am I, I'd like to know what I'm doing too.

i have a big project. are you available long-term?
Long-term projects are unpredictable and I cannot guarantee nothing will happen any more than you can.
Am I willing to accept a long-term project? Quite possibly. Have I ever bailed on one due to life? Only my own. If I sign on to one, will I do my utmost to complete it? Definitely. Some of the projects on my Artist Roles page are projects that have been in development for years and have returned to me after long stretches of silence to commission more assets. If I see any potential issues in the future of a project, I will let you know.

What do you need to make the art happen?
I may have additional questions, but for starters:
- Reference. Visual reference is preferred but not required. Written is alright. If they're still in development and you want help designing them, then I will do my best work if you have a lot of information about the character themselves (personality, past, ect) and (if applicable) the visual themes of the rest of the cast and locations.
------ This includes what you want for posing. If you just tell me 'make them kiss!' then I'm assuming any kiss and any emotion and any angle are acceptable. This is fine if you actually don't mind, but please don't give me vague details only to come back with an essay on adjustments after the sketch because you actually had a really clear idea of what you wanted but just didn't communicate it.
------- If you're concerned about being overwhelming, don't be! The more info the better. If you're concerned you don't have enough info, no problem! Let me know what you got and we'll work with it.
- An understanding of the scope of your project. Things change and grow (or shrink!) and that's alright, but it really helps if I know what sort of load I'm taking on and how to prepare the files. If you're making a quick jam project that will be short and stand-alone (or just a simple single illustration!), there's less care needed for the layers. If the project does grow beyond the initial expectations and communicated needs, please understand that in certain - usually uncommon - situations, it may take a little longer to or need more work to add to previous assets.

Okay, what's the step-by-step?
1. You read this FAQ to get an idea of whether you think I'm a good fit for you. Step one accomplished!
2. You contact me. You may use the form on this site, send me an email at [email protected], or send a message on Discord at Remnantation#8758. We talk, you tell me what you need, we discuss expectations, deadlines, and references.
3. If we come to an agreement, I send you an invoice through Paypal, which will be for USD. Generally, I take payment first - if you need other arrangements, let me know. If you want multiple things and we're communicating through email, I like to separate each thing into separate chains so I can find them easier.
4. I begin the commission within the next day or two. Unless you're just that confident and tell me to send a finished product, I will send you updates. Depending on complexity, the first may be a really rough, undetailed sketch to make sure I'm on the right track on posing and angle. Then the actual sketch.
5. I complete the lineart - I also often send the base colors because it can be difficult to get a good feel with just the lineart. The color gives it weight. But if I'm feeling particularly uncertain or you've expressed uncertainty, I may only send the lines.
6. Finally, the finished product! I will send a JPEG to get that final approval.
If, at any step, I'm off from what you wanted then please tell me. We can usually make adjustments. I will not start the next step until I receive approval on the previous. If you're not quick to respond then that's fine, but we'll be moving at your pace.
7. I will provide a high-res PNG for illustrations once it's approved. For game assets, I'll provide a large PSD for sprites and/or a 300 dpi 1080x1920 JPEG and PSD for CGs so you can resize things as you need and export them into your preferred format. I will send either of these to your email or to a Google drive of your own. If you need some other arrangement, let me know ahead of time.

The Beyond
i want to commission you but i don't want you to display the art because reasons. is that okay?
A requirement to commissioning me is that I can post any and all art created for you in a portfolio (aka, here).
That said, certain projects commission me for things that are not readily displayed, such as CGs for visual novels. These are meant as rewards for the player and having them casually spoiled when glancing through my gallery isn't great. That's one reason I created this site; any and all spoilery content can be found in a section of this site reserved for commissioners who request access from me directly so they can see them as samples. I will not post them on social media unless the commissioner does. I may, with permission, post a snippet or cropped version.
If you want your art hidden there even though it's not spoilers, please talk to me about it.

Can I use anything i commission from you for merch?
Not without prior approval.
Talk to me beforehand. If you know you want to use a thing for merch or if you specifically commission me for something that will be turned into merch, I need to know. Although the art I create for you comes with my permission to use it in a commercial game (if applicable), it does not mean you may turn it into a poster or a sticker or what-have-you and sell them. This includes art books.
This does not mean I am not willing to work something out with you, only not to expect the permission to be included.

where can i post the art and what can I use it for?
Post it anywhere. Post it everywhere. So long as you include credit to me and, if applicable, make sure any watermark I place is visible.
You may display it on websites, including Twitch and Youtube. You can use it in videos. If it was commissioned for a game, you may put it in a game whether it is meant to be free or commercial. You may use it as reference to commission other artists.
You may not claim it as your own, nor can you edit it unless using it to create (non-selling) branding material such as banners or icons. If you're wondering about some other specific scenario, please feel free to ask me.

Where all are you active, other than this website?
Oof. 'Active' is a strong word.
I'm not the best at keeping a constant presence on social media. It's exhausting. I'm not good at it. If you want a constant stream of updates and timed blog posts, I have bad news for you.
That said, I have a Twitter. I have an old DeviantArt and a Tumblr I no longer post to, though I may return to one of them eventually. I also occasionally update a Lemmasoft thread for those with a visual novel focus.
If you see any art from me on any other site, it's highly unlikely I put it there and would appreciate a heads up.

I really love your art! how can I support you?
Thank you! I really appreciate it.
Of course, commissioning me is supporting me but if you just want to show some appreciation, I have a Ko-fi. You can also follow me on whatever platform you find me. And feel free to drop a comment or talk to me on any of them!
